Evaluation Question 2

Representation in the media is how media portrays different social groups, ideas and topics.

The lead character in our movie represents teenage girls. The actress plays the part of an adolescent female who appears helpless and vulnerable in the opening title sequence. As the movie goes on the stereotype is stripped away and the lead grows with power. This will help in attracting our target audience into viewing The Redeemer.

The soundtrack we chose to play was Jess Glyne - My Love which is a popular song
well known by our target audience of teenagers.

Snow White and the Huntsman
This movie made in 2012, has a female role of Snow white played by actress Kristen Stewart. In the opening of the movie she is presented vulnerable and depends on a male role to help her.

Like The Redeemer, the female lead grows power as the storyline proceeds.
The establishment is in a woods/forest as is The Hunger Games.

This can show the female leads to be vulnerable as the forest is seen as a scary and mysterious establishment.

Twilight

Kristen Stewart also stars as the female lead in the Twilight movies.
In this movie, her mundane attire suggests her to be quite normal, doing her everyday routine on her way to school like our mundane routine of a morning run in our movie The Redeemer.

The female leads have casual attire for their scenarios.

Evaluation Question 3

We created our own distrubution company, it is a small local distribution company, we named it Retina Productions and created our own unique logo for it.

Our distribution company is similar to 'Revolver Entertainment' this is because revolver entertainment is a small London based distribution company that only distributes small independent films made mainly by youths and home made low budget films. Revolver entertainment  started of as a distribution company only known locally in London but overtime has become more popular and known in the US and Canada. This would be the ultimate goal for Retina Productions on along term basis.

Revolver has distrubuted many small independent films for example 'ANUVAHOOD' and 'Sket'. Both films have similarities to ours based in London, all main characters are young people (teenagers mainly).

Anuvahood is a real film that is similar to our as it is small and independent and has local London aspects within the film to attracts the target audience which is young British people.

If Retina Productions was a real distribution company, we would distribute films like 'SHANK' 'Uwantme2killhim' because both films have a unique catchy storyline, are made by small independent distribution companies and have a mainly teenage cast to attract a young audience, having young actors will allow the audience to feel a sense of comfort when watching the film as they will be able to relate to the actors.

SHANK action film, set in a dystrophic future London in 2015, where society has fallen apart, gangs have taken over and the economy is in complete anarchy. The story follows Junior and his older brother, Rager, who are in charge of a local gang, "The Paper Chaserz". They try to stay out of trouble and refuse to kill as part of their 'moral code', which is especially enforced by the strong but defensive Rager.

Detective Inspector Sarah Clayton tries to establish why British schoolboy Mark would want to stab John. The two were supposed to be friends, yet Mark claims that the crime was necessary. As she looks deeper into the crime and the two teenagers, she discovers that Mark frequented chat rooms and became fascinated with Rachel, a woman he met in one such room. With her prompting he agrees to make friends with her brother John. Mark quickly begins to fall for her, sympathizing with her tales of domestic abuse by her boyfriend Kevin (Mingus Johnston) while believing that they cannot meet because she is in a witness protection programmer. The target audience for Uwantme2killhim? would be young people based in Edinburgh like our film it has a small independent distribution company that is only known locally. This will force the film to be low budget and be available in only small local cinemas

Our distribution company will enable us to have a restricted local release, as the films we will tend to release wont be in the charts or popular to the majority of the public. When premiering our films we will target small local theatres with a high population of young customers to show our film, Our films will be available for free on YouTube and can be seen on UK Netflix.
we have chosen to make our films free and easily accessible as we are a small distribution company that specializes in distributing independently, low budget made films.

For digital distribution we have made our film very simple and easily acessible to our target audience by having our film available on youtube for free and on only UK Netflix. This will help make our film popular as its free to watch, we have a young target audience this digital form of distrubution  will be convent for them to acess as most young people would not want to spend money on having to by a film thats not popular or mainstream.

Our marketing and promoting strategies are all visual and easy to access.
We made a retina Productions twitter @RetinaProductio page to promote our film on social media, we chose to create a twitter account as it is easy to relate information to our target audience, statistics show that the majority of that visit social media sites everyday are teenagers and young people aged 16-24. Having a retina productions twitter account makes it easy for our target audience to follow our film details and keep up to date on any news or information.

Evaluation Question 6

Different Technologies I have used

Technologies is have learnt to use
-Imacs
- Video cameras
- after affects
- premiere pro
- Blogger
- bensound

Imacs
using apple macs play a major part in getting all our work done one time to a high standard. Luckily i was already familiar with using macs as they have some differences to normal computers that can be seen as difficult to understand and use first time round. We used to macs for editing, research, blog posts, finding sounds. We used softwares on the macs like prezi and Emaze to create appealing slideshows and powerpoint. Another aspect that i used the macs for was research and planning, all my initial ideas was researched and then throughly planned. I used safari (google search engine) on the macs to do this.

Video Cameras

Using the videos cameras was one of the easier technologies we used its straight forward to use and simple to understand, we did have some trouble with the SD cards as we would always accidentally insert the picture SD card instead of the videos ones, this would be a big problem to get around whilst filming before we located the source of the problem and corrected it, this lead to us wasting filming time and have to film more during our free time and rush through the filming time we was given in lesson to keep up to date with all our filming, editing and blog posts. without the videos cameras we would have no film as we would have no way of filming our shots. We never faced any problems with storage as the memory cards had a large capacity, this made it east for us to upload all the footage as all we had to do was insert the memory card, drag it and save it on our group hard drive then we had full access to opening our footage and beginning to edit our footage if premiere pro and after affects

After Affects and PremierePro
Premiere pro and after affects were very important when it came to editing, they are both equally important when it comes to editing our clips, it creates our ideas that we have filmed into a presentable film. I am better with using Premiere pro as I used it more than after affects which made me more confident with using it and exploring it, I tried out new things as i got more used to using it some I liked and incorporated in my work and some i didn't like and chose not to incorporate however both are still equally as handy to know how to do. it is quick and simple to use. The only somewhat time consuming aspect is having to render all the clips individually. Without the use of premiere pro we wouldn't have been able to edit on a green tint, the green tint in our sequence ties the whole film together as it represents our protagonists characters point of view.

Blogger
Blogger was the easiest to use. I think that blogger was one of the most important softwares that  we used, everything we did was stored on blogger as evidence, for example
-planning
-research
-editing
-filming
- schedules
without blogger we would never have been able to be successful with our film.

Bensound
I used bensoud to find Royal free sound that my group could use.
Bensound was easy and straight forward to use but i struggled to find a sound track that all the members in my group were happy with, and one that matched our thriller genre. Overall we wasted a lot of time on ben sound trying to find the most suitable sound for our film.

Evaluation Question 6

To create the production of our title sequence for The Redeemer we used a range of technologies throughout Planning, filming and editing.

We used Apple Mac computers to carry out with our primary research and to access and work with  the software on the computer to create our title sequence.

Shooting our movie we used as video camera. We had a flip camera and mobile phones to take shots of screening and to photograph people involved with the promotion of our movie.

The software we used on the computers were:

Premiere Pro

I imported our footage in Premier Pro, ordered and edited it t create our sequence. I shortened clips, slowed them down using slow motion and and imported a soundtrack from youtube. I Also added sound effects from Premier Pro and imported credits made in Adobe After Effects.

Adobe After effects

Using Adobe After Effects, i created the credits for our opening title. I also used it to edit in the R in the leads leg using an effect called motion track. The green tinted Pov shots were originally coloured but i used After Affects to tint to show the pov of our supernatural character and imported it into Premier Pro.

Blogger

I used Blogger to maintain and keep elements of research, shooting and editing organised. By posting research we were able to keep a record of our ideas and plans. Throughout filming we posted behind the scene shots. I alos used blogger to embed Emaze, Prezi, Youtube Links and Camtasia.

Camtasia

i used Camtasia to copy clips and edit for a directors cut.

Evaluation Question 3

Distribution

Firstly we made our own distribution company named 'Retina productions' This is because partnered with another distribution company called artificial eye, we are a low budget film organisation.

Both Retina productions and artificial eye are low budget distribution companies so in order to advertise our film, we need to upload sneak peak previews of our film to YouTube in order for viewers to discover our film. Secondly we made a twitter page for our distribution company Retina production in order to gain more capital for our film.

In the past artificial eye has distributed films such as ...
All of which are independent european films. This distribution company was ideal due to the fact that we had a low budget and our film was european.

We intend on having our film being made for TV and indie cinemas in the UK. This is partly due to our budget. We have a small budget and releasing our film in cinemas world wide wont be possible due to lack in capital. Our film will be broadcasted on BBC 3 within the uk. One cinema we had intended on showing our film in is 'The screen on the Green'. This is because this cinema is both local and outlets indie european films.
We intend on advertising our film over YouTube. This is because uploading videos such as trailers and sneak peaks don't cost anything so advertising won't hinder on our budget as much as it would if we wanted to broadcast trailers on TV or show them at the Cinema. We also had some advertisement on Retina productions Twitter page.

Evaluation Question 4

Audience - The assembled spectators or listeners at a public event such as a play, film, concert, or meeting.
Target audience - A particular group at which a product such as a film or advertisement is aimed.

Having a target audience is important in ensuring the success of your film due to the fact that if you don't have a target audience, advertising to a particular target might be difficult. With having a particular target audience for example young youth, you might want to target popular age social media outlets for that age group in order to get the most exposer possible for the film.

In our film, we have chosen to target young youth, particularly females. This is because the main actor is both a young teenager (Aged 16) and is also a female. We feel as if this would be an ideal target audience for our film. Also we chose to target parents. This is because having a vulnerable teen on screen in danger might appeal to parents in a way that makes them feel like they need to take more care of their children due to their vulnerable age group. Having targeted these social groups we chose to advertise our film over twitter. This is because this is the main universal media outlet for these particular age groups.

We want to target young female teens aged around 15 and 16, that have both an interest and passion for film. This in turn will benefit us because the audience will have an actual interest in the film, making them appreciate  and like it more.

Audience profile:

Age :                        16
Name :                     Richelle Martinez
Hobbies / interests : Watching films and drawing,
Likes films with elements of suspense
                                 and tension.
Aspirations :            Wants to become a script writer.

Similar films that have the same target audience our films such as 'Shank' and 'Annuvahood'. Both these films were targeted towards young teens. Young teens could liked these films due to the fact that they felt as if they could relate to some of the things that was happening in the film.

Evaluation Question 7

Our first time researching, planning and filming as a group was the process of creating our prelim. Researching, planning, shooting and editing as a group was difficult at first as everyone had different insights and approaches to what we was trying to create.
Now aw we have remained in the same group and got to know each other more, and get comfortable with each other and the equipment we agree more of the time.

My technology skills in shooting and editing have improved sufficiently since the prelim.

My blogging skills have become more efficent and i have been creating long, in depth posts using different formats of media.

I had no experaince with Premiere Pro and i have learnt how to import a movie to edit. Iam able to add soundtracks and sound affects with controlment of volume, visual affects and transisitons and how to import titles from Adobe After Effects.

In this shot from the prelim, the actress' head is cut off. It could of been a more sufficient shot if we had taken it to the left more and focused.
The acting skills were not as good as our cast was nervous shooting infront of the new team.

Camera skills have improved widely since the prelim. We shot myself running into frame alot from the side and took the 180 degree rule into consideration and kept left of he camera which enforced the conventions of our genre.
Our comfobaility with eachother helped the acting skills for our cast.

Evaluation Question 5

Within our film, we chose to do a range of different things to attract the audience and entice them to watch our film.

Also within our film we chose to dress our main female character in trendy sportswear. This might attract people with a sense of smile or taste in the clothing displayed. We felt that this was going to attract our main target audience that being young teenagers due to the fact that in wearing this clothing, it might make the audience (Young teens) relate more with the character due to the accuracy in clothing compared to their own.

Most notably we chose to add a current, trendy song for our main female protagonist to listen to. This was mainly used to attract certain audience members with a taste in music. The song title was Route 94 - My Love Ft. Jess Glynn.

Also within the film the main actor is a young teen, we feel as if this might attract parents to watch this film. This is because parents are constantly concerned about the safety of their children. So watching this might entice the to keep more of an eye out for their kids.

Although compared to genres such the action, comedy and romantic comedy genres the thriller genre compared to other remaining genres out ranks them in viewership, this is good because we need a audience that will actually enjoy the genre we chose for our film "The redeemer".

Another noticeable thing is that the thriller genre has a good mixture of both female and male viewers. although the ratio to male to female isn't as balanced as the comedy genre it is still noticeable. This is good because it allows as film makers to have the most viewers possible, appealing to both males and females.

In our film we chose to particularly target young
teens. This because we feel as if this film will
have the most impact on this particular audience
due to the fact that our main character is also
a young teen. This overall makes the story of our
film feel more relatable to the main target
audience that being young teens. We chose to
target this particular audience over the use
of social media. We chose to target these
young teens over the social media outlets
FaceBook and Twitter. this is because
both these media outlets are the highest
grossing ones in the world. And there
popularity amongst users is rising every year.

FeedBack:
It was important to get feedback from young people aged between the ages of 14 and 19. This is because they are our target audience, and hearing direct feed back from what they are into it key due to the fact that they are the people who are actually watching the film.

When we showed the rough cut to our audience, they had some suggestions on how we could improve our film when it came to the final product. First some shots were shot poorly and as a result of this we addressed the issue and reshot some shots.

This shot is one example of numerous improvements that was made possible with consumer feed back.

Another thing we managed to do was finish the edit if the 'R' on our characters leg. We made it so that the letter R was pulsing on the characters leg, and when our character moved her hand over the R there would not be any of the letter R visible on the characters hand. This was done by an effect called motion tracking.

Evaluation Question 6

Throughout the production of our film i have learnt to use numerous different technologies to help better my final cut of the film.

The most noticeable application i used was 'premiere pro'.This is where i learnt to cut, put together and add numerous sound effects onto the shots i took. In mainly used premiere pro to cut clips, add sound and colour correct some shots.
Using this application i managed to change the colour of certain shots by adding a tint. This was done so that in the POV shots where the colour was actually changed it gave the audience a sense that the thing watching over our main character wasn't human. This added to both the suspense and tension of the film, which was the desired effect we were going for.

Also we mainly used the application to cut clips and add sound sound effects. Cutting the clips down was made easy using the razor tool. This was useful because not only did it give us the ability to add match cuts within the opening title sequence, it also gave us the ability to cut away any footage we didn't want in the final production of our film.

We also used adobe after effects. With this program we added
our title credits onto our film and i also added motion tracking on
the letter R drawn onto our actor leg. With the final production
of our title sequence we added credits using adobe after effects.
This was done by adding a dynamic link onto the clip in which
i wanted the credit to be displayed

Using After effects we managed to make it so the letter 'R'  was glowing/ pulsing on our actors leg, and we also managed to key out the actors hand as she rested it on top of the 'R' so that none of the 'R' was visible. This was done by an effect called motion tracking. This required me to go frame by frame to allow the 'R' to be hidden underneath the actors hand as she moves it over the 'R'. This was a long process due to the fact that we had to go frame by frame in order to key out the hand. We felt that this was necessary in order to convince the audience that the 'R' was actually burning into the actors skin.

We also used the iMacs in our media department quiet a bit. We learnt how to navigate its OS (Operating system) a skill we didn't have due to most of us being used to using Windows OS.
