There are four types of film openings:
Titles on a blank screen
- low budget
- high contrast
- effective
Titles on still images
- more elaborate
- more information in credits
- require different media
Tiles over moving images
- credits and image
- no dialogue
- moving images usually a metaphor or narrative thread.
Title using animation or motion
- animated text
- requires a lot of technology
- stylised editing
Captain America: The First Avenger
This is my favourite example as it sets the storyline the movie. It also tells the audience the time and location in which it was set in (World War 2, America).
The soundtrack sets a heroic tone.
A lot of technology and skill would of went into creating this title sequence e.g. 3d effect.
